June 2022 Issue
Dear SRLS Community,

June is here and Summer Learning has officially begun! As we get underway with “Oceans of Possibilities”, there are tons of amazing things to juggle this summer… literally. Summer programming kicks off the week of June 6 with juggler extraordinaire Adam Boehmer, who’s performing a live show at each of our libraries (no registration is required, so come join the fun!). As part of our Fine-Free Summer, items returned to our libraries won’t have any overdue fines through July 31. As if that weren’t enough of a money-saver, we’re also excited to debut a brand new Experience Pass for up to four free tickets to the Alliance Theatre.  As the festivities kick off, we can’t wait to be your Dynamic Destination for Discovery this summer!

The Pickens County Library Renovation Update
Our Pickens County Library in Jasper is currently closed to the public for renovation and expansion of its facilities. As of May 16, 2022, the exterior metal framing of the building is complete and the exterior sheathing installation is in progress. Interior metal framing is underway for the expansion, and electrical rough-in is underway. The exterior wall between the existing library space and the library expansion has been removed. Construction is being handled by Hogan Construction Group. Renovation and expansion is projected to be completed by late summer into early fall of this year.

During construction, a temporary library location called Pickens Grab & Go is available inside the Mountain Education Charter High School building at 339 West Church Street. To view additional updates and operating hours of Pickens Grab & Go, visit our Pickens County Library Project webpage and FAQ.

The Library is My Place to…
Whether you've visited us to access free Wi-Fi, participate in Summer Learning, borrow an Experience Pass, or log your literacy goals on Beanstack, the library is YOUR place. Need Help from the Library?
“Ask Us!”
Our libraries have launched a new service called “Ask Us!” Sessions which allow visitors to receive one-on-one help by reserving time (up to 30 minutes per session) with a library staff member in person, by phone, or virtually. Sessions can be reserved by calling your library or by visiting SequoyahRegionalLibrary.org and clicking “Contact Us”. Our staff can help you learn to use library technology, access e-Library services, learn basic computer skills, and more. Normally librarians help people find books, but this is your chance to “book” a librarian!
